NASA tests in the Chilean desert instruments for the search for life on Mars
2020 assigned sending another space agency NASA rover to the Red Planet. Once again, scientists will try to find on Mars, at least one sign of life once existed on this planet. Rover called KREX-2 should run like clockwork, so engineers agencies spend months of careful preparation for his important mission. For example, right now they are experiencing it in terms of the Chilean Atacama Desert, where the rover takes soil samples and analyzes them.
The research program is called the Atacama Astrobiology Drilling Studies (ARADS), and this is the second test rover in the earth's deserts. The first successfully completed in February last year. Current testing involves the use of three new tools that will be used in the exploration of Mars. The first tool - a Wet Chemistry Laboratory. This mobile laboratory was used as early as 2007, under the Phoenix Mars mission. The second instrument - a Life Detector, which after last year's tests has been significantly modified, with the participation of experts of the Spanish Center of Astrobiology. The device is able to look for the biological components in soil samples using a variety of biochemical tests. The third tool is called Microfluidic Life Analyzer, and it is used for the first time in the field. We developed it in the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA in order to extract the amino acids (the basic building blocks of life) of the tiny liquid volumes.
If you believe the official statements made by NASA's rover showed his best side. New research instruments and the rover's arm worked in the desert just perfect. 2019 will be held two more scheduled tests KREX-2 and a number of devices. In the meantime, preparations for the Mars mission goes according to plan.
