In the distant 90s, I first tried to imagine one of the first models of glasses virtual reality. The device was bulky, and virtual reality rather primitive, but even those experiences enough for me to come to a complete delight. I played Doom, seeing the world through the eyes of the main character. Over the past decade, technology has leaped forward, and not so long ago, publisher Bethesda has released a game called Doom VFR, which again takes us to Mars laboratory, captured by demons. I just could not pass and do not write a review of this work.

Initially, this review was not planned by me from the word "generally". Indeed, just last year I told you about the new Doom game series, which has returned to the good old video game industry ultranasilie. I thought that id Software has just adapting your game to the realities of the virtual space and everything. Pereprohodit last year's thriller in the second round I did not want to scary. Therefore, the game on the review I originally ask the publisher did not. But in fact it turned out that Doom VFR - is a separate independent work: with its unique script, locations and, of course, gameplay, sharpened under the virtual reality. As there was to stand?
Doom VFR name refers to the legendary gun BFG (Big Fu% # ing Gun). In other words, in the acronym VFR personally I see the phrase Virtual Fu% # ing Reality, and something tells us that the way it really is. The plot revolves around an unnamed employee of security service of the Joint Aerospace Corporation (UAC), which consciousness after his death transferred into an artificial body. If you are hoping to see in the game of the legendary DoomGuy (or "Soldier of Doom"), I hasten to disappoint you - he's not here. The sole purpose is to restore the order of the protagonist in the station, as well as closing the portal to Hell, from which a dense flow Mars laboratory rod eerie demons from hell. In principle, nothing new, but the way all this is implemented, deserves special attention.
First, the degree of immersion in the game thanks to a virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR (this version of the game today, I run to and fro) has increased incredibly. You will find yourself among the deserted Martian research facility swarming with all sorts of demons. Graphically, the game is, of course, gives full Doom, released last year. Nevertheless, the game looks very nice in terms of design and not really hurt your eyes some visual compromises. The developers have tried to make sure that the player was as comfortable and familiar to be back in your favorite game, and let's such an unusual way. I am sure that Doom VFR for HTC Vive boasts more advanced graphics, but in the absence of this in my headset, the quality really compare the two versions I do not have opportunities.
Secondly, the game offers us not one, but three models of management. First - this is a standard gamepad DualShock 4, which comes bundled with every console PlayStation 4. You can navigate either by analog sticks, or use the familiar for Skyrim VR way to teleport from point "A" to point "B". Using a special button and specify the location of sight nearby, where you want to move, release the button and move back almost instantly. It does not break the game mechanics and does not make you "invulnerable" - can not survive. Such movements are limited distance, so to escape from the evil demons in this straightforward way you do not get.
The second control scheme - two controller PlayStation Move. This method, in contrast to the DualShock 4, allows you to independently control both hands: one you have weapons, and in the second - hand grenades, which can be hurled at enemies. But this method is bad because the Move controllers, there are no analog handle. You can teleport, strafe left and right to move back and forth, as well as sharply rotated 180 degrees. Gently rotate around its axis will not work, and this spoils the impression of such a control circuit completely. I quite seriously 30 minutes trying to master this approach to movement, but eventually grew hysterical and switched to a third scheme, which will tell you a little later.
The third scheme - it's a great gun PlayStation Aim, debuted bundled with the game Farpoint, which I told you not so long ago. On this controller in the form of assault rifle has two analog handles that allow you to move anywhere, as well as a full set of useful buttons (which have a normal size as opposed to the Move). The truth here is to control the left hand, which is the pomegranate, separately not work. But it does not matter. But the aim of the gun - a real pleasure, and travel becomes much nicer than using the Move and DualShock 4. Having carefully examined all the available control schemes, I came to the conclusion that the PlayStation Aim - the best option in any case. And if you are the proud owner of the controller - use his name. In second place DualShock 4, since it is the golden mean between the immersion in the game and maneuverability. The main thing - do not use the PlayStation Move, as this is the "curve" diagram of all three. Which is very strange, given that in some games (even in the same Skyrim), these controllers are felt very good.
The combat system is simple and effective as a steel rail. In his right hand gun, left - hand grenades. Arsenal make up the main character familiar to all fans of Doom pistol, plasma rifle, shotgun, machine gun Gatling, the same BFG and other weapons. The cartridges in the game are found in great abundance, so that the experience because of them is not necessary. A nice new feature VR-version of the game was the ability to "wear down the enemy at a run", in other words, a good hurt him, then teleport directly into his body, spreading it into pieces. This technique replaces the bloody Glory Kills from the previous game. Inside the virtual reality, this approach feels fully justified and even convenient. Personally, he did not cause any discomfort in me.
Separately, I would again like to mention the incredible music that impressed me more in last year's game. This is a very cool mix of aggressive metal and dubstep, completely enveloping the player from all sides and set him on the right way. To deal with the demons under such a great soundtrack - a pure pleasure! Hard riffs on the 12-string electric guitar mixed with a furious electronic rhythms create a unique atmosphere in which you dissolve completely. No, really, for the music I'm really ready to love this game endlessly.
The problems in the game, of course, too. In addition to the above-mentioned failure of ways to navigate using the PlayStation Move, I would have said not the most convenient and accurate way to switch between different character control schemes. For example, when I switched between Move and PlayStation Aim, I discovered a virtual projection of his gun somewhere in the five meters in front of him, And I could not manage it. She just hung in the air in a static position. Attempts to reset the position of the hand in space by holding down the Options button to nothing lead. Because of this, I had to restart the game from the last checkpoint. Only after that, everything is more or less normal. But the main drawback for someone surely will be the duration of the game. It can literally walk for 3-4 hours. Although the VR-cost of the project is very budget - only 859 rubles.

What can I say, summarizing written above? Doom VFR - this is a short but very eventful ride for virtual reality. In this case, Bethesda did not go on the way of porting the original game, as it was the case with Skyrim VR, and to create something new, with a separate plot and the protagonist of the alternative. Game pleases the highest degree of involvement of the player in the action happens. You excitedly demons crumble into small pieces under the fucking music, spectacular shoot from powerful guns, toss grenades and dodge from enemy shots while staying at this moment directly inside the game and not watching her through the TV screen. Spoils the overall picture is not the most successful control scheme using the PlayStation Move, the short duration of the game, as well as some not very pleasant bugs. That is why I put Doom VFR 7 out of 10.
