Scientists: in 2099 the beer becomes scarce drink
It is thought that climate change could deprive mankind of many foods. Scientists are already fears that in the future the Earth will become unsuitable for growing certain plants, and people will not be available chocolate, wine and even Tabasco sauce. A new study published in the journal Nature Plants Monday, suggests that by 2099 humanity can even lose the ancient drink - beer.
The results showed that due to the extremely hot conditions expected in 2099, barley yields will be reduced from 3 to 17% worldwide. Depending on the region, the price of beer may increase from 52 to 300%. It turns out that today's beer costing 4 dollars in the future will cost from 6 to 24 dollars.
On the basis of the work went to the climatic data for the years 1981-2010 and the four climate models. Calculations have shown that the greatest damage on the barley harvest will be done in Russia, Ireland and Brazil - in these countries, there is the most dramatic warming. At the same time, Belgium and Japan can produce more beer, and a drink will be a luxury for many people. According to scientists, in most regions of the barley yield will remain at a satisfactory level. However, scientists did not pay attention to other factors that can ruin a crop. These include pests and natural disasters such as floods.
The researchers reminded that due to the lack of beer no one dies. Moreover, fewer of its use can have a positive impact on public health.
It's not far from being the only scientific research on the topic of beer. For example, in 2013 the brewers cloned beer found on the ship in 1840. In 2018 the brewers from Australia created a beer with a reduced amount of gas especially for astronauts.
