Martian machine InSight got the first pictures from space

On November 26, NASA's - and indeed around the world, too - know that InSight spacecraft mission sat down on the surface of Mars after a 130-kilometer landing on an elliptic curve. And now, a few days ago a team of scientists identified the precise location of the InSight, using HiRISE images, powerful camera aboard a NASA space of another device, MRO. The InSight lander, its heat shield and parachute were found HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment) on one of the pictures taken 6 and 11 December.

This is not the first case when the HiRISE photographed module on Mars. InSight is based largely on the Phoenix spacecraft in 2008 year, which came to the MRO camera shots as during the descent, and once on the surface.

And although the team HiRISE University of Arizona also tried to take a picture of InSight during landing at the MRO it was not possible to even try to make a good shot.

InSight (Interior Exploration using Seismic Investigations, Geodesy and Heat Transport) will not look for life on Mars. But exploring the interior of the planet - from which it is made, as a layered material and how much heat passes through it - it will help scientists understand how the raw materials of the planet to support life allow.

Once Mars was a very strong magnetic field; many of the ancient part of the planet's crust strongly magnetized. But billions of years ago, this field is practically vanished, leaving Mars without protection. To better understand why the magnetic field of Mars vanished InSight scientists want to learn more about the planet's core. In two years, the probe scientific mission will attempt to perform a modicum of scientific objectives, including a study of mineral resources and the possible tectonic activity of Mars.
