Trump has set the task to make America the first in the field of artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence could be invented in the US, but other countries, including China, Canada and France, have taken great steps to support the development of this technology and to extract from it benefit. And so Donald Trump, the US president, will try to change this course, signed an executive order to start their own game AI by the US government. The main directions of "the American initiative in the field of artificial intelligence" have been published in advance by the Office of Policy Science and Technology.

Trump has set the task to make America the first in the field of artificial intelligence

Artificial Intelligence in the United States

This initiative aims to stimulate the industry of artificial intelligence in the Americas through the redeployment of resources, the creation of new resources and the development of methods of forming technology in the country even as globalization itself.

However, although the objectives are high, the details remain unclear. And the amount of funding of AI research has not yet been announced.

According to the plan are five key points to be achieved:

  • Redirect funding. The Order prescribes the federal funding agencies prioritize investments in artificial intelligence.
  • Creating Resources. The desire to make federal data, computer models and computing resources available to AI researchers.
  • Setting the standard. National Institute of Standards and Technology will be charged with creating standards that contribute to the development of "reliability, stability, confidence, safe, portable and compatible AI systems."
  • Retraining workers. Agencies will be instructed to prioritize the training of workers to changes caused by the AI, through education, training and fellowship programs.
  • The international involvement of. strategy will be built for international cooperation, which ensures that the AI is developing in accordance with the American "values and interests".

Each step should help in American studies and artificial intelligence to make the US more competitive - in proportion to the success in the tasks.

Trump briefly mentioned "branch of the future" in an address last week, and administration officials have indicated that the president is preparing a series of regulations aimed at enhancing US competitiveness in key technology areas, including AI, 5G and quantum computing.

For the White House, of course, it is vital to have a coherent policy with regard to artificial intelligence, if he wants to keep US military power, economic power and influence abroad. And Trump's administration has been criticized for being adhered to non-interference in the principle of AI, in contrast to other governments. The main economic and strategic competitor America - China - announced a large-scale plan of AI funding and development in 2017. Many in the government are obviously concerned that the US is losing its advantage. Last year, the then US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis has sent the White House a note asking the president: to develop a national strategy for AI.

Jason Furman, a Harvard professor who was chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors and President Obama helped create an important report on the administration of AI in 2016, he says that the new plan is encouraging, but it is only the first step.
