Unmanned fighter Boeing - already in 2020
In Boeing's many promising projects, and one of them - it is a platform for the creation of autonomous fighters called Airpower Teaming System. We already know that the first operational UAV based on it will be Loyal Wingman. Being designed to support manned aircraft, it will be ready for its first flight as early as 2020. The project was developed for the Ministry of Defense of Australia.
In addition to the fact that he is able to accompany piloted vehicles, it can be used for reconnaissance and even attacks. It is known that the autonomous operation is provided by artificial intelligence, which can be programmed to perform any mission. The intelligent system is also useful for storing the distance between it and other aircraft. Because inside there is no pilot, it can fly for much longer - more than 3,700 kilometers.
Boeing representatives did not disclose how much it cost to develop new items. However, they shared that unmanned fighter is much cheaper than manned counterparts. The Corporation plans to produce a new type of fighter only on request, and agreed to equip them with additional equipment necessary to the customer. The aircraft can take advantage of high demand, as it can be sent to the extremely dangerous missions without endangering the lives of ordinary pilots. However, Boeing is not the only company that is engaged in a similar project. for example, in 2015, the company Lockheed Martin has begun to develop an unmanned fighter aircraft based on the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
Do not forget about other interesting Boeing projects. At the moment, she is also working together with the company to develop Aerion supersonic business jet. Commercial production intriguing Aerion AS2 is scheduled for 2023.
