NASA released the latest pictures, which gave the rover "Opportunity"
Rover "Opportunity" has become known not only for the fact that he worked on the Red Planet's surface for almost 15 years instead of 90 days, which he diverted scientists. Alas, June 10, 2018, he made contact last time, then Mars is covered powerful dust storm, which, apparently, and put an end to a brave and very industrious rover. Nevertheless, NASA managed to get the last images that the rover transmitted to Earth shortly before his departure to sleep.
The last view of the rover was made up of 354 photographs that were taken on the Pancam camera from May 13 to June 10, 2018. In the photo you can see the inner slope of the crater Endeavor Western shaft, and the rover itself - or rather, his footprints and antenna.
And here are the latest pictures that "Opportunity" transmitted to Earth before his "disappearance". Due to the darkness in the pictures a lot of "noise", but if you try, you can find the Sun in the Martian sky. Found?
And here it is:
Total rover "Opportunity" has worked on the Red Planet 5,352 Martian days, breaking the more than 45 kilometers of the surface of Mars. Initially, the rover had to work through the entire 1000 meters, but due to favorable meteorological conditions for continued research. During his tenure, he sent not the Earth about 225 thousand photos, reviewed dozens of species on the planet, and even set a record - one day on Mars was as much as 220 meters.
Why can not save rover "Opportunity" rover using "Kyuriositi"? Unfortunately, this is simply impossible. According Mars map created by NASA, "Kyuriositi" and "Opportunity" are 8400 km apart. Given that over 15 years, "the old man" drove 45 kilometers, his savior is required to overcome this distance forever.
