As filming "Titanic" Cameron

In November 1997, at the International Film Festival in Tokyo, the first screening of the film "Titanic." Drama James Cameron received 11 "Oscars" and for 12 years held the title of highest grossing picture of the history of world cinema.
Such unprecedented success cost the film crew expensive in every sense of the word. The team had to work in extremely difficult conditions, and the director - and even beat out additional funding: the cost of the film were almost twice as many claimed. How did the filming of "Titanic" on the list:

On December 14 the American premiere, and after a few days, "Titanic" came out in wide release. On the first weekend the film brought in more than US $ 28, 6 million, and was in the lead at the box office for 15 weeks, but only at the box office was 287 days. Distributors even had to change the supplied coil cinemas, as they could not withstand such intensive use.
The film was nominated for the "Oscar" in 14 nominations and was awarded to 11 of them, including the best scenery, best costumes and best visual effects. All of the above cost film companies in a round sum: the final budget for the film made $ 200 million is noteworthy that the construction of the liner in the early XX century the company "White Star Line" has spent $ 7, 5 million (at recalculation on prices in 1997, taking into account inflation, which is about $ 150. million).
The lack of funding

However, the film was originally planned to spend half the money. The increase in the cost of filming was an unpleasant surprise for the movie studios 20th Century Fox and Paramount Pictures. Especially for the Paramount, as its head Sherry Lansing has assumed enormous risks to get a part of the rights to a new job Cameron.

However, after signing a contract with 20th Century Fox, initially entered into an agreement with the director, revealed that "Titanic" will cost investors too expensive.
Artificial Ocean
On the set, too, everything went wrong: the construction of the ship was delayed, the operator had to change to another, several members of the crew sick with the flu, and in conflict with producer Cameron emerged.

In the beginning, right before the start of filming in Mexico, the press reported that the group was poisoned narcotic substance that someone mixed in lobster soup. In total about 80 people were injured, many of them were hospitalized with hallucinations.
The greatest difficulties arise during the filming of scenes involving water. First, the director had to suffer from the filming of deep-frames - they were not only labor intensive, but also extremely dangerous.

For the filming of "sea" frame built two giant tank. They were close to the ocean: first, because it was convenient to take water, and secondly, so was able to capture the real horizon and thereby save on special effects. One of the tanks (namely it was immersed ship) was 250 m in length and 27 m in width.
Members of the team who had to sit there for several hours, were given wetsuits. However, some of them abandoned, such as Kate Winslet, subsequently diseased with pneumonia.

Certain difficulties arose during the filming of the scene, when the inside of the ship enters the water: it was planned to use 40 gallons of water, but the amount should be increased to three times (at the same time and convert part of the scenery, making them more reliable).

The scene inspired team fear due to the fact that it had to be removed in one take: re-recreation of the destroyed interior would take too much time and would enhance the already fabulous budget.
Studs and davits
When Cameron's team created the scenery for the film (almost no pictures which, for obvious reasons) for the sample was taken is not real, "Titanic" and his "twin" - the liner "Olympic". Some locations, such as the upper deck have been replicated to the smallest detail, down to the original metal railings and heavy doors.
Many home furnishings developed the same company that produced a similar thing to the sunken liner. The original manufacturer of davits and ordered that they certainly support the weight of the loaded lifeboats. Even the wooden pieces, which is rose at the end of the film, made on the model of the present, which is stored in the museum.

Costume, as is common in such cases, spent months studying fashion in 1912, and developing images for the film. The harder they had to put up with some actions of the director. Costume designer Deborah Scott recalls how once Cameron made actors extras, which were beautiful dresses, hats and gorgeous jewelery, jump into the water - just because he needed "more people in the water."

It is noteworthy that the effect of ice, namorzshego on heroes trapped on a plot in the water, has been achieved thanks to a special wax and powder, which turned into crystals in contact with water. Going mouth pairs added on a computer. "Alien" nose and draw the smoke
Among the 11 "Oscars", which received the picture, there is also the award for Best Visual Effects. Top and again expensive: according to some accounts, Cameron, knowing how much it costs the computer "dorisovki" airliner nose, wished that the nose is not built by hand.
In general plan the role of "Titanic" performed his 14-foot model. Landscape and smoke from the chimney is also added on the computer. This liner was very different from the model constructed in natural size, which was less detailed. Iceberg, of course, also added later, but for emphasis on the deck of scattered pieces of ice.

Surprisingly, sunset, against which the kiss Rose and Jack - the most that neither is true.
