Stephen King, the recognized king of horror, not always writing blood-curdling stories like "Misery" and "Radiance". For example, a story titled "The Body", where mysticism and suspense - not the main thing.
Everyone has nostalgic memories of childhood, fear of growing up, that years later seems naive and slightly ridiculous, the fear of never seeing their friends.
Writers, filmmakers and representatives of other creative professions often turn to the subject of his childhood and create works based on his past, which are interesting to other people: in the end, each child was. That glorious time when it was at the disposal of all summer - alluring and vast - over the years recall more often.
And Stephen King - is no exception. The story "The Body" was published in 1982 in the book "Four Seasons". And although the author himself gave it the subtitle "Autumn innocence", the action takes place at the end of a hot summer in 1959 before studying at the school.
Fictional provincial town of Castle Rock, in which the characters live many works of King, shaken by news of the disappearance of the boy, who had gone into the forest blueberries. The protagonist, a teenager named Gordon Lachance along with three friends accidentally finds out where lies the corpse (the boy knocked train). The boys decide to find him, to get a reward and glory. They go camping, tell parents that spend the night in a tent on the near field. On the way they are waiting for various adventures, most of them unpleasant: they are rescued from a train on a narrow bridge over a river, spend the night in the woods with howling predators, and in the end come to grips with the corpse of a gang of adult bullies. The company of boys with whom Gordy went on a campaign, soon collapsed, but one of them, Chris, was his best friend.
Screen version of this story, filmed by Rob Reiner, was released in 1986, and Stephen King himself has recently admitted that it was the first successful experience of translating his work on the language of cinema.
The film is really touching in its sincerity, spontaneity and, of course, the atmosphere of light-heartedness, which will soon disappear, because the guys already have to think about the future. And most importantly - the childhood, that is close to everyone.
It is interesting to look at the actors who played the main role. The fearfulness bumpkin Vernet hardly recognized Jerry O'Connell and Kiefer Sutherland in the form of retro-bully, despite his intimidating looks funny.
The role of Chris in "Stand By Me" has become one of the most striking works in the short, unfortunately filmography River Phoenix - a wonderful young actor, who after a few years was gone. Wil Wheaton, who plays Gordie Lachance, removed infrequently, but just like his hero, became a writer. The fourth company, Corey Feldman, was once a teen idol, acting in films with his friend Corey Haim. Also appeared in a small role of a young John Cusack.
At the end of the film the song sounds the famous soul singer Ben King, which gave its name to the film after producers expressed bewilderment at the "Body". This, as it is called, the national anthem friendship, first released in 1961, after the premiere of the film became a hit again.
Two years ago in Brownsville (Oregon), which hosted the filming, it was celebrated the anniversary of the work on the film, in which even held a contest for amateur eating blueberry pie as in the story Gordie.
