• Old Chinese House, which turned into a modern residence of
Evolution Design Studio carried out reconstruction of two old country houses, located on one of the islands in Zhoushan, China.
Building with dilapidated roofs and unoccupied for the past 70 years, at different levels and the high banks open for the owners breathtaking sea view. The focus of the project was aimed more at how to capture multiple views of the house than the external appearance of the building.
The whole structure, an area of 265 square meters, accommodates three bedrooms are located in two renovated buildings, and the studio, converted from the old kitchen with the ruined roof, which was replaced by a glass ceiling. To one of the houses was added a new reinforced concrete box, devoid of any decoration. The choice of material is caused by the necessity to resist erosion, which is a consequence of the sharp maritime climate. The new space opens directly onto the sea and connects two levels - the upper with the master bedroom and a lower guest rooms, so it is logical that it is the social area designed for communication and recreation.
